Alliance for Chemical Industries

Title of the project (alliance):
Technological alliance for deepening the local manufacturing of mineral resources in Sinai for developing the chemical industry in Egypt.
Objectives:
 General Objectives 
•To synchronize and align Egypt research     strengths to deliver new locally manufactured      products to the market. 
•To promote collaborative work between   different pools of expertise in research         institutions, universities, industry, NGO’s and   national authorities. 
•To foster the development of innovative   processes and products for the local Market. 
•To create general awareness about the value of   scientific research activities in creating     new   startups that eventually support the local income. 
•To participate in supporting the   national   industrial structure, gross domestic products,   decreasing import, generation of   new SME’s and   creating new jobs.

Specific Objectives

Track 1: Technology Transfer for Improving the Specifications of Kaolin for Production of Competitive Chemicals
•Production of prototype of kaolin   concentrates of different grades to be i   nvestigated at different industrial chemical   plants, e.g.; filler grade for paint industry and paper making; ceramic grade for ceramic and porcelain industry and refractory production. 
 •Semi-industrial production of high grade kaolin on pilot scale at CMRDI of the previous prototypes with quantities sufficient for testing in the mentioned chemical industries. The partners will submit technical evaluation reports for the investigated products. 
 •Techno-economic prefeasibility study for a establishing project for upgrading kaolin in Sinai or an industrial city 
Track 2: Technology Transfer for Improving the Specifications of white sand for Production of Competitive Chemicals
•Production of prototype of white sand concentrates of different grades that satisfy the specification for glass, crystal glass, optical glass, and fiberglass industry as well as filler for some other chemical industries such as paint.
 •Semi-industrial production of high grade sands on pilot scale at CMRDI of the previous prototypes with quantities sufficient for testing in the mentioned chemical industries. The partners will submit technical evaluation reports for the investigated products.
 •Techno-economic prefeasibility study for establishing project for upgrading white sand in Sinai or an industrial city.  
Track 3: Production of Manganese Rich Slag and Pig Iron from Egyptian Low Grade Manganese Ore
•The main objective of this track is to adjust a suitable technology for treatment of local low grade manganese ores to high added value high manganese slag with high manganese content and pig iron with low manganese content for production of manganese ferroalloys and steel.
Track 4: Production of Silicomanganese from local ores at Sinai Manganese Company
The main objective of this track is to produce silicomanganese alloy from local available resources in Sinai Manganese Company and replacing the imported alloy with Egyptian produced alloy.Specific Objectives:
 •Adapting the Sinai Manganese Company’ (SMC) facilities for the production of SiMn alloy (this includes capacity building and human resources development)
 •Designing a new eco- friendly, energy saving technology for SiMn production•Best usage of low grade manganese ores
